This album is an ingenious jigsaw puzzle of diverse musical influence held together by taut strings of raw musicianship. Appreciable on so, so many levels. The fact that it was assembled and memorized for one performance blows my mind. Stunning. I once sweatily and drunkenly hugged Ed after a show. I don't think he much appreciated it, but I wear it like a badge. albinobone
On those early albums I fell in love with the angles, the scree, the defenestrating guitar, the splatter of drums like chopsticks skittering across the pavement...and, somehow, the sweetness...
This is my favourite Deerhoof album, though. Even more favourite than my last favourite: Love-Lore. I wish I were aging with such aplomb. If my life was a new album, it would sound like boiled perogies. albinobone
